Sugar pumpkins are highly recommended for pumpkin puree. They have less water and pulp, and they are sweeter.
Cut in half.

Put em in the oven anyway you like. Facing down, facing up, sliced,etc. Bake until tender. Could be anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on the size of the pumpkin and the oven.
