Sugar pumpkins are highly recommended for pumpkin puree. They have less water and pulp, and they are sweeter.
First cut pumpkin in half.

Put the two pumpkin halves in the oven anyway you like. Facing down, facing up, sliced, etc. Bake until tender. Could be anywhere from 45 minutes to over an hour depending on the size of the pumpkin and the oven.
Take pumpkin out of oven, pull skin off and mix until smooth. That simple!
